I’ll be adding the first-ever LEGO Speed Champions set to my model collection next year, thanks to 77256 Time Machine from Back to the Future.
The LEGO Speed Champions theme will be getting an all-new movie-based build next year in the shape of 77256 Time Machine from Back to the Future. The 347-piece model offers up two different takes on the fan-favourite car, plus solid minifigures of Doc Brown and Marty McFly.
While other versions of the iconic vehicle have been released over the years, 77256 Time Machine from Back to the Future will be the first to arrive at a LEGO Speed Champions scale, which will also make it the first such model from the theme that I’ll have picked up to date.

Despite a variety of LEGO Speed Champions sets having dropped over the years, it’s a theme I have very little interest in. I’m not a petrolhead or a Formula 1 fan and even the handful of film-based models that have popped up from time-to-time have failed to pique my interest in the car-related line-up that debuted in 2015.
However, that’s definitely going to change next year when I dip my toe into the LEGO Speed Champions theme for the first time, and it will all be thanks to 77256 Time Machine from Back to the Future. I’m a huge fan of the BTTF trilogy, but the only brick-built version of a DeLorean I have to date was courtesy of 71201 Back to the Future Level Pack from LEGO Dimensions.
Sure, 10300 Back to the Future Time Machine may have been on my must-have list since 2022, and it's a set that allows for the creation of all three DeLorean variants, but its cost-prohibitive price point means I’m unlikely to ever be able to afford the LEGO Icons build.
21103 Back to the Future Time Machine also failed to excite me way back in 2013 (despite its strong minifigure line-up), with a decidedly blocky build that I felt really dropped the ball when attempting to capture the overall look of the famous movie ride.
Despite having a general lack of interest in car-based models, 77256 Time Machine from Back to the Future is an absolute instant win for me. The designers behind the set have really nailed the vehicle's signature style, the inclusion of two build options and a pair of spot-on minifigures are big bonuses, and the set's price point is spot-on, as fas as I'm concerned.

Will 77256 Time Machine from Back to the Future open the door to more LEGO Speed Champions purchases for me further down the road? The jury’s still out on that decision for now, but if, for arguments’ sake, a certain licensed Ghostbusting car were to be added to the theme at some point, I could easily see my brick-built garage continue to expand...
77256 Time Machine from Back to the Future will launch on January 1, 2026, priced at £22.99 in the UK, $27.99 in the US, and from €27.99 in Europe, and is available to
