How to build a LEGO Star Trek Shuttlepod for under £30 now

We're just days away from the launch of the first Star Trek set and its accompanying Shuttlepod, but here's how you can build the gift-with-purchase for under £30 right now.

This year's big Black Friday release is the £349.99 / $399.99 / €379.99 10356 USS Enterprise NCC-1701-D, including 3,600 pieces and numerous exclusive minifigures. For Black Friday weekend only, you'll also receive 40768 Type-15 Shuttlepod with purchases of the set, or while stocks last.

Both builds make up an expensive package for Star Trek enthusiasts to consider picking up, but fans who would be happy with just 40768 Type-15 Shuttlepod are going to be out of luck without heading to the secondary market, and likely spending a small fortune. That's why we've found a way to make your own version of the set, with some differences, for under £30.

Almost every piece used to make up the Shuttlepod itself can be found in other builds, meaning they're all featured on the official online store's Pick a Brick service. Pick a Brick is a section of LEGO.com that you can use to order individual elements from existing sets and make your own creations. Read on for the full parts list and a guide to using Pick a Brick.

Anyone aiming to follow our parts list and build their own Shuttlepod should keep two important details in mind. The first is that you won't be able to make the Ensign Ro minifigure, which will almost certainly remain exclusive to the gift for good. You also won't be able to apply any stickers from the sheet to build, as these are never made widely available outside of their respective sets. Despite these restrictions, securing the parts needed to make a LEGO Star Trek Shuttlepod based on the gift's design isn't a challenge and can be done without breaking the bank.

The parts list

40768 parts list

The parts list for a Shuttlepod model based on 40768 Type-15 Shuttlepod, excluding the minifigure, has 102 different elements, or 250 pieces in total. 101 of these are readily available on Pick a Brick, and the one left out is easy to source, too. The total cost for the 101 pieces on Pick a Brick is £24.24 / $26.92 / €28.01.

Whether you're on mobile or desktop, the first step to securing the parts to make your own LEGO Star Trek Shuttlepod build is to download the parts list file, provided below in JSON and CSV formats. These are the file types accepted by Pick a Brick, and you only need one to move forward.

Once you've downloaded either file, read on for a full guide to adding this parts list to Pick a Brick. The process is the same on desktop or mobile, but the layout of the official online store differs slightly.

Step 1: Upload the file

First, head to Pick a Brick by clicking the blue link. Then click or tap the upload icon, resembling an arrow with a line above it.

This will present you with a new screen asking you for the file. Just drag and drop the CSV or JSON file you downloaded via the links earlier in this feature, or tap 'Choose your file' to proceed.

Those on mobile or otherwise cannot or do not want to drag and drop the file will need to pick the file manually on their device. It should be called Shuttlepod and show up in your file explorer software on your device. The screenshot below was taken on an Android device, but it's similar to selecting a video or photo to upload to social media.

Tap or click the file, and you'll be taken back to LEGO.com for the next step.

Step 2: Add the parts to your basket

You should now be presented with another screen, similar to the first, but with the file in the slot where it said 'Choose your file' before. All you need to do is click or tap the blue button titled 'View all pieces', unless the red text just above it indicates that there are some pieces unavailable.

This would mean that some of the parts in the list are not in stock when you are ordering, and you can simply return to this feature, and Pick a Brick another day, to try again. Parts are restocked often, and at the time of writing, everything is readily available to order in the UK and Europe.

Those who see the red text greyed out, as it is in the above screenshot, don't need to worry and can click the blue button as instructed. This will show you all the parts in the list with images, but there's no requirement to scroll down the page.

Just tap or click the other blue button titled 'Pick selected pieces', and the parts will be added to your Pick a Brick basket. Note that the Pick a Brick basket differs from the LEGO.com basket until the final step.

Step 3: Add the order to your LEGO.com basket

Finish up by hitting the orange 'Add to bag' button, and feel free to double-check the elements in your order by tapping or clicking the grey button next to it.

Once you hit the orange button, your Pick a Brick order will be added to your overall LEGO.com basket. It usually takes a week or more for parts to ship out, but keep in mind that Pick a Brick orders qualify for double points and gift-with-purchase price thresholds. There are multiple gifts confirmed for Black Friday 2025, taking place this weekend.

The missing piece

LEGO Disney 43279 WALL E and EVE 13 1200x800

We mentioned that one part in our list can't currently be found on Pick a Brick, and this is the modified plate with a Technic pin connection in white (Piece ID: 3172). This is a relatively recent release, but it's not exclusive to 40768 Type-15 Shuttlepod. It was first debuted in 43279 WALL-E and EVE, and that set's inventory has yet to be added to Pick a Brick at the time of writing.

Those of you reading this feature a few months in the future may find that this has changed, and you can likely find the piece on Pick a Brick using the ID 3172 and selecting it in white.

3172

You'll need six of this element to continue making a LEGO Star Trek Shuttlepod, and at the time of writing, your best bet is ordering six of them on BrickLink. Listings for one piece are as low as £0.33 and average out at £1.59. This is a minimum of £1.98 to add to the Pick a Brick total, until the piece in white is released in more sets and the price comes down.

The instructions

40768 instructions

With the parts for a LEGO Star Trek Shuttlepod secured, the last thing you need is the instructions from the gift-with-purchase. The manual has not been added to the official online store at the time of writing, but it should be shortly after the set is released during Black Friday 2025.

The link for the instructions on the official online store is live, but the document just isn't available there yet. Click the image above or this link to head to the official online store and find the instructions when they are eventually available. Consider that the parts will probably take at most a couple of weeks to arrive anyway, and you may as well order them now.

That is everything you need to make your own LEGO Star Trek Shuttlepod, without the minifigure or stickers from 40768 Type-15 Shuttlepod, in case you want to wait for a discount on 10356 USS Enterprise NCC-1701-D after Black Friday.
