Disney and James Cameron have just debuted the first trailer for Avatar: Fire and Ash at CinemaCon, raising a burning question mark over the late 2025 LEGO portfolio.
You might have forgotten – it’s easily done – but the LEGO Group did in fact release a bunch of Avatar sets for both the original movie and its sequel The Way of Water in 2022 and 2023 respectively. The next instalment in the series, Avatar: Fire and Ash, will debut in cinemas on December 19, 2025. The question now is: will the LEGO Group bring back and continue the LEGO Avatar theme later this year?
At the moment, we’ve heard no rumblings either way from the LEGO rumour mill, which isn’t really enough to say that it will or won’t happen. The LEGO Group typically debuts sets for late-year movies (such as Wicked in 2024) in October, and we’re only just starting to get murmurings of a scattering of October 2025 sets. It’s entirely possible that an entire wave of LEGO Avatar: Fire and Ash sets is on the way and we just haven’t heard anything about them yet.

Of course, money talks above all else, so what’s most likely to dictate the planning and launch of any future Avatar sets is how well the first batch sold. The LEGO Group never publicly discusses sales figures (aside from broad references when announcing the premature discontinuation of themes, such as VIDIYO), so the only barometer we have for their performance is how quickly, heavily and frequently the original LEGO Avatar sets were discounted.
The answer is ‘pretty quickly, pretty heavily and pretty frequently’ as things go. Several LEGO Avatar and LEGO Avatar: The Way of Water sets could regularly be picked up for a third off through third-party retailers, while even LEGO.com slashed prices on several of them. That doesn’t necessarily bode well for future sets, particularly given the high investment required for the new moulds in those sets.
On the other hand, those moulds now already exist – and at least for the Na’vi, could easily be repurposed for future sets without additional investment. The question here is really how many new pieces the LEGO Group would need to achieve whatever new characters and creatures debut in Fire and Ash, some of which Disney has already shown off specifically to CinemaCon attendees in Las Vegas this week.

The film’s first trailer has yet to be released to the general public, but Variety has published a comprehensive report of everything included in the initial footage, which introduces a pair of new Na’vi clans: the Wind Traders and the Fire People, two warring tribes engaged in fierce battle above Pandora. According to Avatar star Zoe Saldaña, Fire and Ash will see the peaceful Wind Traders attacked by the Fire People, who are ‘former Na’vi who have forsaken [Pandora deity] Eywa’.
Avatar: The Way of Water is the third-highest grossing film of all time, while the original Avatar still holds the top spot on that list, so there’s clearly an audience out there for these movies. Whether they have the wider cultural impact to drive merchandising sales is a separate discussion, though – and as far as the LEGO sets are concerned, one only the LEGO Group can really weigh in on with any authority.
At this stage, all we can do is ponder whether we’ll see more LEGO Avatar sets towards the end of 2025, but it’s very much worth thinking about as we gear up for Fire and Ash’s marketing cycle. The movie is only eight months away now, after all.
This isn't a one-way discussion, though: let us know whether you think LEGO Avatar will return in 2025 in the comments, or through our social media channels.
