More than a month before the LEGO Star Wars set officially hits shelves, early eBay listings for 75389 The Dark Falcon predict the future of the Rebuild the Galaxy model.
The first reactions to LEGO Star Wars 75389 The Dark Falcon on social media were centred around the minifigures – and with good reason. The line-up of Darth Jar Jar, Bounty Hunter C-3PO, Darth Dev, Darth Rey, Beach Luke, and Jedi Vader are all newcomers to the theme thanks to Rebuild the Galaxy and we might not see them return in any other sets, due to their uniqueness.

The focus on the minifigures mean many people will be wanting to collect them and are certainly a pull to buy 75389 The Dark Falcon. However, it seems that some people are only interested in the minifigures, with little intention of keeping the brick-built ship itself. It's a familiar trend for LEGO Star Wars sets in particular with tempting minifigures, such as 2023's 75367 Venator-Class Republic Attack Cruiser, where secondhand prices shot up within days of its release.
75389 The Dark Falcon might not be available on shelves until August 1 (although pre-orders are open now) but there is already an eBay listing to pre-order the ship alone, without minifigures for £125 a pop. That puts the value of the six minifigures at around £35, down from 75389 The Dark Falcon's full RRP of £159.99 in the UK.
While this could be the act of someone who just wants to collect the minifigures for themselves, the fact that up to three copies of the Falcon can be pre-ordered, the same as the maximum amount of sets that can be bought directly from the LEGO Group, it seems more likely that it's someone intending to also sell on the minifigures alone at high prices. This might be a new record for how early sets have made it onto the secondhand market and is a telling sign for how out of control collecting high-profile LEGO Star Wars sets (or even just the minifigures) has got.
