With initial images of two new LEGO Ideas sets surfacing over the past couple of weeks, the list of crowdsourced sets still in the production phase is growing ever-slimmer…
Since our last update to this list in August, the LEGO Ideas theme has bounded along at an enviable pace: one set has debuted on shelves in 21343 Viking Village, another has surfaced in a LEGO catalogue in 21344 The Orient Express Train, and a long-awaited gift-with-purchase has popped up online in 40595 Tribute to Galileo Galilei. All three of those models are based on designs submitted by fans through the Ideas platform.
There’s still plenty to look forward to in 2024 and beyond, though – from the first-ever Dungeons & Dragons set to a life-size LEGO model of a furry feline friend. Check out every LEGO Ideas set currently in production, organised by the order in which they were originally approved, below.
Polaroid OneStep SX-70

Rumoured to be arriving in stores as soon as January 2024, Minibrick Productions’ Polaroid OneStep SX-70 belongs in the same family of brick-built objects as 21327 Typewriter and 21332 The Globe. It’s the kind of striking display piece that will look great on a desk – and may even fool one or two of your friends into thinking it’s the real deal. It sounds like the LEGO Group has kept this one relatively affordable, too: it’s thought to retail for $79.99 for 516 pieces.
Your Family Tree

Also said to be on the way in early 2024, Ivan Guerrero’s Your Family Tree clinched top prize in a family-themed LEGO Ideas contest hosted in partnership with Target. It’s the fan designer’s third LEGO Ideas set following 2020’s 21324 123 Sesame Street and 2022’s 40533 Cosmic Cardboard Adventures, and looks sure to be a unique entry into the crowdsourced theme’s portfolio. This one’s also rumoured to retail for $79.99 in the US.
Dragon’s Keep: Journey’s End

Lucas Bolt’s Dragon’s Keep: Journey’s End also comes to us courtesy of a contest, having topped a public poll to find the first-ever LEGO set based on tabletop game Dungeons & Dragons. This one is pretty much a lock for 2024, given next year marks the 50th anniversary of the classic roleplaying adventure. It should have plenty of wide appeal for LEGO Castle and fantasy fans in general, too.
Red Telephone Box

If British iconography is your bag, keep an eye out for John Cramp’s Red Telephone Box sometime within the next year or so. This towering ode to these sunny isles would look pretty sweet next to 10258 London Bus on a shelf, as long as you can also cope with everything being very red. The display model is one of two builds approved by the LEGO Ideas review board as part of the second 2022 review.
The Nightmare Before Christmas

The ship has pretty much sailed on launching Simon Scott’s The Nightmare Before Christmas project in time for the movie’s 30th anniversary (pending a last-minute surprise release in December – you never know), so the safe money now is on a late 2024 release for this frighteningly festive model. This was the second set given the green light as part of the second 2022 review.
Jaws

We’re going to need a bigger shelf: Johnny Campbell’s mighty Jaws build includes both boat and shark, doing for blockbuster fans what the 150th BrickHeadz failed to achieve (after Jaws lost out as a potential licence to yet more Star Wars). Spielberg’s classic feels like treading into the same territory as Stranger Things – it’s probably a little bloodier than you remember – but we can’t see the LEGO Group stretching to include a bunch of trans-red pieces.
Cat

Fingers crossed the LEGO Group comes up with a snappier product name than the original submission, but it’s what’s inside the box that counts anyway – and Damian Andres’s design is the purr-fect model for cat lovers. Now we just need to see whether the designers include enough bricks to build multiple breeds or coat colours, or whether we’re all going to have to make do with the Siamese-Birman cross in the original pitch.
Reading, Reading, Reading

Currently the only LEGO Ideas gift-with-purchase on the slate, Polish builder FR_AN’s Reading, Reading, Reading took the crown in a recent contest hooked to Singles’ Day. The challenge laid out to builders was to depict an activity that’s fun to do on your own, and you can’t say fairer than reading a book. No word yet on when this one will be available, but it’s likely the furthest away from hitting shelves.
