How many of each LEGO Series 26 Space minifigure you’re going to want

There are always LEGO Collectible Minifigures worth buying in multiples in every new wave, but here’s how many of each Series 26 character we reckon you’re going to want…

71046 Series 26 Space lands on shelves on May 1, succeeding January’s 71045 Series 25. And while that series had no shortage of characters worth collecting in droves – from an army of Vampire Knights to an entire farm of goats – this one looks like it’s going to give space fanatics even more reasons to buy more than one of most of its minifigures.

The good news is that picking out specific characters will hopefully be easy with Brick Search, the LEGO set app that can scan Series 25 minifigures to determine what’s in the box. If Series 26 minifigures are also scannable – and early signs suggest they just might be – then you’ll be able to use Brick Search to identify who’s in each blind box, offering an easy path to army building.

In advance of 71046 Series 26 Space launching next month, then, join us as we predict how many of each of its 12 brand new minifigures you’re going to want…

Retro Space Heroine

Let’s start with a minifigure that could arguably go either way: the Retro Space Heroine. A colour-swapped version of 71018 Series 17’s Retro Space Hero, this groovy gal will be an instant buy for anyone who copped that retro-futuristic character back in 2017. But why stop at one? Swap out her headpiece and you could build up a colony of retro space heroes and heroines, ready to populate a retro-futuristic build. And just think of all the robo-pugs you’ll have!

Flying Saucer Costume Fan

LEGO Minifigures 71046 Series 26 Space Flying Saucer Costume Fan 2 1024x768

One of the more niche minifigures in 71046 Series 26 Space, the Flying Saucer Costume Fan speaks to the same crowd as 71034 Series 23, which was composed entirely of costumed characters. These minifigures tend to feel relatively unique, so army-building them is probably not on the cards – and the same is true of Flying Saucer Costume Fan. It’s a neat minifigure, but one is likely all you’ll need.

M-Tron Powerlifter

LEGO Minifigures 71046 Series 26 Space M Tron Powerlifter 2 1024x768

Anyone with a soft spot for this ‘90s LEGO Space subtheme will already be carving out space in their collections for the M-Tron Powerlifter, and rightly so: this modern take on a classic looks awesome, from the magnetizer accessory to the dual-moulded legs. And for those too young to remember the original LEGO M-Tron, this is the perfect gateway drug to spending way too much money on retired LEGO. Get ready to start hunting them down now: they’re going to be popular…

Robot Butler

Another retro character that feels straight out of 1950s sci-fi serials, the Robot Butler is one of those characters that feels like a really fun addition to a LEGO Collectible Minifigures series – but not necessarily one you’re going to be rushing to the LEGO Store to buy in droves. It’s got some cool pieces and will go hand in hand with the Retro Space Heroine, but even for a bigger display you’ll probably only need a couple.

Nurse Android

Sort of in the same wheelhouse as the Robot Butler comes the Nurse Android, insofar as you might not feel an intrinsic need to buy more than one or two. Or you wouldn’t if not for that accessory: the SpaceBaby is brand new in pink here, and LEGO Classic Space fans are probably going to want a few of those to sit alongside the white and blue versions already in their collections. The LEGO Group knew exactly what it was doing with this one.

Spacewalking Astronaut

LEGO Minifigures 71046 Series 26 Space Spacewalking Astronaut 1 1024x768

A LEGO Space minifigures series wouldn’t be complete without a modern-day astronaut, but the Spacewalking Astronaut uses the increased per-character budget of this theme to go above and beyond any previous space suit. From its printed arms and leg side-printing to its brick-built backpack, everything here elevates this astronaut above any others on shelves, and you might therefore want quite a few to upgrade or replace the minifigures in your current collection.

Orion

LEGO Minifigures 71046 Series 26 Space Orion 1 1024x768

This anthropomorphic approach to a constellation feels like one of the more specialised minifigures in 71046 Series 26 Space, and while it’s undoubtedly very cool – when was the last time we had a minifigure that used as many transparent pieces as this one? – you’ll probably be satisfied with just one in your collection. Unless you’ve already thought up a mad use for Orion’s trans-purple hair, that is.

Ice Planet Explorer

LEGO Minifigures 71046 Series 26 Space Ice Planet Explorer 1 1024x768

The second of three LEGO 71046 Series 26 Space minifigures to directly call back to a retro LEGO Space subtheme, the Ice Planet Explorer is one for all those kids who grew up with Ice Planet 2002 (in 1993, not 2002 – the noughties was the future in the early ‘90s, remember). The modernised minifigure drops the now-defunct trans-neon orange of the original series but otherwise excels, and will probably sit alongside the M-Tron Powerlifter as the most popular character of this series for many.

Alien Beetlezoid

LEGO Minifigures 71046 Series 26 Space Alien Beetlezoid 2 1024x768

While the Alien Beetlezoid isn’t specifically inspired by Galaxy Squad, it’s hard not to draw a line between this buggy guy and the baddies in that 2013 LEGO Space theme. That’s just one reason you might want more than one of this minifigure, but even without that nostalgic connection, this is all-around a pretty cool character – and one still generic enough to assemble an army of.

Alien Tourist

LEGO Minifigures 71046 Series 26 Space Alien Tourist 2 1024x768

How many Alien Tourists you want is really going to depend on how big your LEGO city is, or maybe just how much you love fun. This little guy could pop up with his Hawaiian shirt, shorts and camera in a city just as equally as the Death Star (he is an intergalactic tourist, after all), so if you’re into the novelty of the minifigure – and it easily looks like one of the series’ best – you’re probably going to want a bunch to litter across your collection.

Blacktron Mutant

LEGO Minifigures 71046 Series 26 Space Blacktron Mutant 2 1024x768

Blacktron II fans might not be so driven towards the Blacktron Mutant as Ice Planet and M-Tron fans will be towards their respective minifigures, because this is a pretty radical take on the retro subtheme’s astronauts, with a very specific aesthetic. An army of those might look a little odd, so while this is a great minifigure, it’s perhaps not one you’ll be stocking up on.

Imposter

LEGO Minifigures 71046 Series 26 Space Imposter 1 1024x768

The Imposter feels like it fits into the same territory as the Alien Tourist, which is to say that you could dot them all over your LEGO city to simulate a surprise invasion of little green men. The aliens might also fit in pretty neatly with the other little green men from this year’s LEGO City Space sets, and that all adds up to multiple reasons to buy at least a few of what may be 71046 Series 26 Space’s funniest minifigure.
