LEGO Icons 10338 Bumblebee's prototypes were bananas

LEGO Icons 10338 Bumblebee is coming soon and some early prototypes of the creation have surfaced, revealing a bananas technique that got the axe.

10338 Bumblebee launches on July 1 for LEGO Insiders or July 4 widely for £79.99 / $89.99 / €89.99 and while the final design strongly resembles his animated countpart from the first generation of Transformers, he could have looked much different.

Some prototype builds for the upcoming LEGO Transformers set have now been revealed by RacingBrick. While much of the model has stayed the same, the finer details have varied – but none as much as the head.

10338 Bumblebee's head is recreated in the final design using a printed, pointed element with axe blades used to capture his iconic profile but at one point during development, those axe heads were LEGO bananas instead. The pointed piece could have been a flat, curved element instead too, less drastically affecting the appearance of LEGO Bumblebee.

The majority of the brick-built figure has remained the same but other highlights include the less-curved wheel arches and the grey windows as opposed to the light blue in the final design. Notably, the preliminary figure also presents a fifth prototype head using claw elements in the place of the axe head pieces too.
