LEGO 21062 Trevi Fountain is a haven for pieces new and old

LEGO 21062 Trevi Fountain makes use of new and returning elements to capture the landmark at this scale, including one former-exclusive piece.

Looking closely at 21062 Trevi Fountain, you might have spotted some unusual pieces in use aside from the minifigures, nanofigures and window frames. The set's designer has revealed that the model blends the new and old to best depict the Trevi Fountain, including one piece that you might have missed out on previously.

"We don't have any elements that were specifically developed for this set, but there are some newer ones and some that we've been able to bring back," said LEGO designer Mary Wilson to Zusammengebaut.

"One of note I would say is the tiny horse head that was only in a Collectible Minifigure line and there's also a newer dome element that is in light nougat that happens to be the perfect dimensions to finish off the centrepiece."

That small horse head has only previously appeared in 71034 Series 23's Knight of the Yellow Castle with a print to represent a hobby horse, now used for horse statues for the second time. Considering the two years and nine months between 71034 Series 23 and 21062 Trevi Fountain, bringing the element back is a monumental effort (pun intended).

The new three-by-six-stud half-dome piece appears to be debuting in 21062 Trevi Fountain but the designer notes that it was not specifically designed for the Architecture set. It will be interesting to see where else and in what colours this piece appears in the future.

In the meantime, 21062 Trevi Fountain launches on March 1 for £139.99 in the UK, $159.99 in the US, and €159.99 in Europe with pre-orders open now in the UK and Europe.
