The LEGO Batman Movie minifigures were the best selling super hero toy of the last year.
New data from the consumer research group NPD found that British consumers spent £200 million on super hero toys. The top ten super hero toys for the 12 months leading to July 1, 2017 were listed by the data group, which features three LEGO products.
Retail Times reports that The LEGO Batman Movie minifigures, despite currently being discounted at shop.LEGO.com, topped the list – while this might reflect the low price of the product, it suggests that fans connected with the wacky bat suits and obscure villains.
The two other LEGO sets that made the list are at the company’s most popular £19.99 price point. Surprisingly, the Batman set is not from the exquisitely detailed line based on the LEGO movie, it is 76053 Batman Gotham City Cycle Chase from the DC Super Heroes range. The set is very loosely inspired by Suicide Squad, featuring Harley Quinn and Deadshot along with Batman.
Spider-Man’s appearance in the other LEGO set on the list is unsurprising, as the web-slinger proves to be a forever favourite Marvel super hero, especially among young fans. 76058 Spider-Man: Ghost Rider Team-up barely features Spidey himself, instead focusing on the motorcycle and Ghost Rider – a minifigure that excited fans upon its release thanks to the flaming hair element.
