The LEGO Star Wars The Mandalorian and Grogu sets confirm that Grogu is getting a makeover, but he's not the first to undergo a transformation.
When Grogu debuted in LEGO form in 2020, he used the baby body from 2016's 60134 People Pack - Fun in the Park with a unique print. He remains one of the only baby figures to feature a print on its body. While this made Grogu fit in with the other LEGO baby figures, it wasn't quite as accurate to the character's appearance as some might have liked. The forward-facing arms also likely limited the amount of printing on the body.
Thankfully, Grogu is getting a makeover after six years, and it's even more dramatic than the transition between 75292 The Razor Crest and
Grogu's new figure is in most of the new The Mandalorian and Grogu sets, redesigning the body of the character to eschew the traditional LEGO baby element in favour of a specialised torso with the arms pointed down. It's a dramatic transformation for the LEGO figure, and fairly early on in its lifespan to boot. That's not to say that LEGO Grogu is the only small green character to undergo such a makeover early on, though.
LEGO DREAMZzz's similarities to Star Wars are limited, but they both share a popular small green character with a penchant for being cute. DREAMZzz's equivalent to Grogu is Z-Blob, whose earliest figures made use of the Dreamling body or domed pieces.
This resulted in inaccurate arms and eyes, creating a stark contrast between the animated character and the one in physical sets, featured in sets between 2023 and 2024. The earlier Grogu was in sets for longer, from 2020 to earlier this year.
Thankfully, the LEGO Group fixed this in 2025 with the debut of a new Z-Blob element, designed specially for the character. It is a near-perfect representation of Z-Blob that is still being used to this day, and has even managed to find a way into Botanicals sets without the eye printing.
Whether the LEGO designers will be able to figure out a similar alternate use for the Grogu body is unknown at this time. It's more specific in shaping to be as accurate as possible to the Star Wars character. For now, Grogu and Z-Blob have these serious upgrades in common, both redesigned to be more accurate and pleasing to fans.
