Every LEGO Harry Potter set retiring in 2023 and beyond – September update

Check out the latest update to the longlist of retiring LEGO Harry Potter sets, which has this month seen multiple direct-to-consumer sets given an even longer shelf life.

The Wizarding World has so far magicked up five LEGO Harry Potter flagship sets since the theme returned in 2018, including 71043 Hogwarts Castle, 75978 Diagon Alley, 76391 Hogwarts Icons Collectors' Edition, 76405 Hogwarts Express Collectors' Edition and this year’s 76417 Gringotts Wizarding Bank Collectors' Edition. Of those, the first three were originally scheduled to retire in 2024, with the remaining two hanging around into 2025.

As of September 2023, however, the LEGO Group has pushed back the planned retirement of its microscale Hogwarts, huge Diagon Alley and life-sized LEGO Hedwig to 2025 too, which means all five of the current Harry Potter D2Cs are now due to be available for at least another two years. Staying on shelves alongside them are this year’s 76419 Hogwarts Castle and Grounds and 76421 Dobby the House-Elf.

It’s pretty unusual to see a theme enjoy so many big-ticket sets remain on sale together, without one making way for another – but this effectively cements Harry Potter as the LEGO Group’s biggest licensed theme behind Star Wars, as the company’s regular lists of best-selling themes have long suggested. If the company continues its current trajectory of debuting a huge new Wizarding World set every year, seven will be on shelves together by 2025.

While you’ve got plenty of time to grab any of those huge sets, though, time is rapidly running out to pick up the LEGO Harry Potter models retiring in 2023. Among those are several additions to the modular Hogwarts system – which is rumoured to be continuing in 2024 – and last summer’s 76403 The Ministry of Magic and 76408 12 Grimmauld Place, both of which mark their locations’ respective debuts as LEGO sets.

A couple of veteran releases are also finally on the way out this year, including 75968 4 Privet Drive and 75979 Hedwig, so make sure to buy while the going’s good – once the final production run on these sets sells out, they won’t be coming back. That could feasibly happen any time between now and the end of 2023. Remember that these dates are subject to change, but the 2023 list at least feels pretty locked in now…
