LEGO Ideas' new Snoopy set looks drastically different to the original submission, but expanding on the project was a requirement for the team.
Bossofdos64 is the latest LEGO Ideas fan designer after their Snoopy model was approved for a set last year, and
The subject matter of the model has shifted from a campfire scene to the character's iconic red doghouse. While the original scene is still present in the set, the doghouse was never pitched for an official model. This represents one of the biggest changes to a LEGO Ideas submission, despite how recognisable it is. Adding the doghouse was all too necessary for the LEGO Ideas design team, though.
“A big change from the original submission was the addition of the doghouse, as it's a big part of Snoopy's life!” explains Marina Stampoli, a designer behind the new set on the LEGO Ideas blog. “You can either display the doghouse with the base or unfold the campfire scene and display it next to the house.”
Lift the red model off the base, and you'll find the original campfire scene for Snoopy and Woodstock to sit around, complete with a starry sky that folds up to fit neatly inside the dog house. It's a clever way of making sure the original idea is represented, while adding something so iconic in the first and so far only LEGO Snoopy set.
Other changes to the original submission included redesigning the Snoopy figure, such as adding detachable legs for different poses.
“We wanted to give the fans the possibility to recreate as many iconic scenes from the comic strip as possible,” said Marina. “In order to do this, we needed to make Snoopy’s body ‘flexible,’ to make it possible for him to stand, sit or sleep (or just daydream).”
These detachable legs are included as a separate build, rather than something you would have to build, such as in
