Multiple printed pieces in LEGO Super Mario 72037 Mario & Standard Kart may mean the set proves to be a winner with fans hoping to avoid stickers.
The LEGO Super Mario theme will be expanding once again on May 15, when 72037 Mario & Standard Kart races into view online and in stores. The 1,972 piece set represents the first-ever large-scale version of Nintendo’s iconic character, looking like he and his signature vehicle drove straight out of the smash hit video game series.
In addition to accuracy, a poseable figure and a special display stand, 72037 Mario & Standard Kart may also be a winner with fans for another reason. From the official images of the LEGO Super Mario model released to date, it looks as if there are no fiddly stickers to be applied to the set whatsoever.
Instead, 72037 Mario & Standard Kart appears to come with a handful of new printed pieces, many of which could well pop up in potential future LEGO Super Mario builds. Those elements would seem to include subtle prints on Mario’s white gloves, two printed tiles featuring the character’s blue eyes and raised eyebrows, plus the plumber's mouth and ears.
The LEGO Super Mario set also gains a round 6x6 tile and 3x6 half circle, both with a red ‘M’ on them, while the kart’s two sets of wheels all feature unique printing. While a printed nameplate on the special stand would have been the icing on the brick-built cake, 72037 Mario & Standard Kart could still prove to be a very satisfying build for video game fans hoping to avoid stickers altogether.
We'll find out for sure if 72037 Mario & Standard Kart is lacking in stickers when the set is launched on May 15. The LEGO Super Mario model is priced at £149.99 in the UK, $169.99 in the US, and €169.99 in Europe and pre-orders are now open.
