If you’re eyeing up the latest LEGO Star Wars Microfighter and wishing it was just a little bit bigger – to act as a better foil for January’s 75402 ARC-170 Starfighter, for example – one Rebrickable user has the answer. And the best part is you don’t need to faff around with sourcing parts from Pick a Brick or BrickLink: you just need to pick up two currently-available LEGO sets.
Those are 75388 Jedi Bob’s Starfighter, which provides the basic structure of the ship (including its cockpit), and 31160 Race Plane, which comes in clutch for all those dark blue pieces central to Plo Koon’s starfighter. “As the LEGO Group only offers a Microfighter of Plo Koon's ship this year, I set out to transform 75388 Jedi Bob’s Starfighter into Plo’s ship,” Will_Crafting explains on Rebrickable.
“After a long tour of the LEGO aisle, it was the 31160 set that caught my eye for its large number of blue parts for a small price.” Indeed, January’s 31160 Race Plane retails for only £12.99 / $14.99 / €14.99, while 75388 Jedi Bob’s Starfighter will set you back £34.99 / $39.99 / €39.99 at full price (but can be had at Amazon in the UK for only £24.99 at the time of writing).
You’ll then want to grab 75400 Plo Koon’s Jedi Starfighter Microfighter when it hits shelves in June, if nothing else for that brand new and exclusive Plo Koon minifigure and R7-D4 head element. Will_Crafting says that they’re planning to make a second version of their design using the parts from the Microfighter once it’s available, so you might get some extra mileage out of the pieces too.
