First LEGO Pokémon polybags rumoured to sidestep SMART Play

LEGO Pokémon is rumoured to be getting two polybags this summer – and odds are good that they’ll have nothing to do with SMART Play.

Following its debut in LEGO Star Wars yesterday, SMART Play is rumoured to be forming the basis of at least some of this summer’s rumoured LEGO Pokémon sets. But according to a new Instagram Story from lego_minecraft_goat, the theme’s first two polybags arriving in August won’t be tied to the tech in any capacity, as they’re said to be available around the world. At launch, SMART Play is only available in six countries.

These polybags are reportedly numbered 30729 and 30730, with the latter rumoured to consist of 56 pieces. Nothing else is known about them at this stage, including what exactly they might include, but the world (of Pokémon) is pretty much your oyster. Tiny brick-built Pokémon, an Ash minifigure with a Poké Ball, a buildable Pokémon card (if we’re feeling really zany) – all would suit the polybag form factor.

We’re just speculating wildly there, of course, especially as we don’t yet know what form the next wave of LEGO Pokémon sets will take. The set names so far suggest we’re looking at playsets in some capacity, following February’s trio of larger 18+ display builds, but at what scale – and whether or not minifigures will be part of the picture – has yet to be revealed.
