The LEGO Group’s response to one fan’s request for a replacement minifigure element has gone slightly overboard… not once, not twice, but 83 times.
In what you might call a perfect storm (sorry not sorry) of events, redditor stormchickenwastaken claims to have opened the box to their new Storm minifigure in 71039 Marvel Series 2 – only to find the X-Men character missing her cape. They then filed a request for a single replacement element with the LEGO Group’s customer service team, who promptly sent out the wrong piece.
After a little back and forth, the company agreed to just send out an entire replacement minifigure. Fast forward a little while later, and no fewer than 83 individual Storm minifigures turned up at the redditor’s door. That’s pretty handy for custom builds based on the 1996 Sega video game X-Men 2: Clone Wars – and who among us hasn’t dreamed of giving that a go – but is otherwise probably more Storms than any one person needs.

The fortunate redditor shared their windfall to the r/lego subreddit, where other users chimed in with their experiences with the LEGO Group’s replacement piece system. One claimed to have found issues with half of their 71031 Marvel Studios minifigures, only to receive a $10 coupon in recompense, while others reported receiving the right pieces in the wrong colour, or just the wrong elements altogether.
But other stories of good luck abound, too: one user said their single Pick a Brick order arrived four times (and they were only charged once), while another apparently wound up with 20 random medieval helmets and red axles in an otherwise correct order. It seems like ordering single elements (or requesting replacement pieces) is basically a lottery at times, which isn’t massively surprising given the complexities and logistics involved in administering such a system.
Still, if you were wondering what 83 Storm minifigures look like bagged up together, now you know. But given there’s no longer any reliable way to detect what’s inside the Collectible Minifigures boxes, this could easily just be – as redditor Charbaby quipped – an accurate depiction of all the blind boxes you’ve bought so far. The search for Moon Knight continues…
