If you care about LEGO Star Wars plaques, this extremely nerdy detail is for you

Wondering why the plaques on the new LEGO Star Wars busts don’t match other collections? This extremely nerdy detail direct from the designer has the answer…

Peer closely at 75438 Yoda Bust (if you dare) and 75439 Darth Vader Bust and you’ll notice that the plaques accompanying each one – the 4x4 elements that feature the LEGO Star Wars logo and character name – don’t match the Marvel busts, which use 2x6 tiles instead. Okay, fine, that’s probably because they’re a continuation of the LEGO Star Wars Helmet Collection and match those instead. Except those use 4x6 plates, so, nope.

What they actually match is the plaques included in the Starship Collection, like 75440 AT-AT and 75441 Venator-class Attack Cruiser, which also feature a 4x4 tile with a single row of studs. The goal here is therefore seemingly not cross-theme compatibility for each collection, but cross-collection compatibility within individual themes – as has now been confirmed by Vader’s designer Aaron Newman.

“While the [Helmet Collection] plaque format has been consistent over many years (and continues to be – see the 2026 Sauron helmet), the busts gave us the opportunity to do something new,” Aaron said on Instagram.

“Ultimately the team decided to align the plaques here with other LEGO Star Wars collectible offerings, like the midi-scale Starship Collection, instead of with the Marvel busts’ plaques (which are aligned with other LEGO Super Heroes offerings, like the Iron Man Mark III Collectors’ Edition).”

Do you care about the intricacies of LEGO plaques? If so, you may appreciate that the design team are apparently thinking about them just as much as you. And if you disagree with their decision… well, for Vader at least you could pick up a second plaque from the helmet set for your bust. But you’re out of luck for Yoda, so fingers crossed you’re happy with the direction they’ve taken here.
