LEGO Star Wars’ Gingerbread AT-AT gets the perfect Xmas gift: an extra year on shelves

The LEGO Group has extended the shelf life of its latest festive Star Wars set less than a month after it hit shelves, suggesting it’s selling very well indeed.

40806 Gingerbread AT-AT Walker reinvented Christmas for LEGO Star Wars this year, taking an iconic vehicle from a galaxy far, far away and making it look good enough to eat. (But don’t actually do that, because, you know… plastic is difficult to digest.) It’s clearly resonated with LEGO fans too, as it went on immediate back order when it launched on October 1 and is currently out of stock altogether at LEGO.com in the UK and Europe.

It’s perhaps no surprise then that the LEGO Group has bumped 40806 Gingerbread AT-AT Walker from its planned retirement date of December 31, 2026 all the way to December 31, 2027. That means you’ve now got two years at minimum to pick up this 697-piece walker and its exclusive Gingerbread Darth Vader minifigure, so don’t panic if you can’t order it right now (and definitely don’t give in to scalpers trying to cash in on eBay).

This also bodes well for future seasonal LEGO Star Wars sets, as the designers have clearly landed on a winning formula following a slightly less successful experiment with 2023’s 40658 Millennium Falcon Holiday Diorama. Fingers crossed the AT-AT’s popularity opens the door to a cookie Snowspeeder, candy cane X-wing (for everyone this time) and much more in the years to come.

Check out our review of 40806 Gingerbread AT-AT Walker here. While it’s temporarily out of stock at LEGO.com in some regions, it’s still available to back-order in the US at the time of writing, and will count towards current freebie 40774 Classic Animation Scenes.
