You’ve got a little longer than expected to add QT-KT to your LEGO Star Wars collection

LEGO Star Wars 40755 Imperial Dropship vs. Rebel Scout Speeder is currently scheduled to retire later than initially expected, offering a much bigger window to complete your 25th anniversary collection.

Last year’s 40658 Millennium Falcon Holiday Diorama debuted a new type of product for the LEGO Star Wars theme: a LEGO Store-exclusive seasonal set that launched in October, retired three months later and (most importantly) wasn’t an advent calendar. All assumptions were that this year’s equivalent release, 40755 Imperial Dropship vs. Rebel Scout Speeder, would also hang around for only a brief time before vanishing from shelves.

The good news is that the 383-piece army builder is currently scheduled to retire by the end of 2025, not 2024, so you’ll have at least a year to get your hands on the remake of 2008’s 7667 Imperial Dropship and 7668 Rebel Scout Speeder. It’s the final 25th-anniversary set of 2024, and includes the last of seven different LEGO Star Wars 25th anniversary minifigures in the form of QT-KT.

While 40658 Millennium Falcon Holiday Diorama wound up heavily discounted by December last year (perhaps by dint of being a sequel trilogy set linked inextricably to the holiday season), it’s tricky to imagine the same fate befalling 40755 Imperial Dropship vs. Rebel Scout Speeder. If anything, it’s more likely to fly off shelves as collectors snap up its three Stormtroopers, three Rebel Fleet Troopers and 25th anniversary minifigure.

If it had only been in production for three months, that might have made it difficult to come by – and a real target for scalpers hoping to cash in on demand. But extending its life cycle to a full year should ensure there’s enough stock for everyone, and plenty of time for us all to pick up QT-KT and complete our LEGO Star Wars 25th anniversary collection. It also makes perfect sense given there’s nothing tying this set to a particular time of year.

At the time of writing, all seven of the LEGO Star Wars sets to include 25th anniversary minifigures are due to be available until at least the end of 2025. That’s a neat turnaround from the last batch of anniversary sets in 2019, three of which retired after only nine months on shelves – taking their retro re-released minifigures of Han Solo, Darth Vader and Lando Calrissian with them. Only Luke and Leia survived into 2020.

That’s not the case here, so there’s no need to panic as we reach the end of 2024. But here’s hoping at least a couple of the 25th anniversary sets – such as 75379 R2-D2 and 75387 Boarding the Tantive IV – receive some deep discounts over the Black Friday period, because there’s no time like the present to start that collection if you haven’t already.
