The LEGO Star Wars SMART Play sets have been found early, exploring the possibilities of the new system, as well as the compatible builds.
Days ahead of the public debut of SMART Play, some LEGO enthusiasts have managed to find the sets early and explored just what you can do with the technology and models within them. Admaker96 on Reddit shared an image of the sets on shelves, and gilliebricks even picked up
The latter user's first post was to modify the SMART-compatible X-Wing model to remove any aspects of the build that had been included to accommodate the system. This includes enclosing the cockpit, and their efforts have resulted in a decent-looking starfighter on a smaller scale. Hopefully, someone in the community will do the same with the other SMART Play vehicles.
This won't be the only LEGO X-Wing of 2026, though.
The user's next effort after modifying
"Wow, so it is possible to cover the smart brick and still have it work," comments OK_Background22. "This just proves how trash the new smart brick Star Wars sets are with their wide-open backs."
Others in the comments point out that these open backs are to allow you easier access to the SMART brick. Some enthusiasts note further that minifigures can be fully enclosed without it being a problem, despite how often they are removed from vehicles during play.
Whatever the case, we now have a better idea of how SMART Play can be applied outside of LEGO Star Wars, though the platform is currently limited to the licensed theme. The eight LEGO Star Wars SMART Play sets will launch tomorrow alongside dozens of other new releases, and there's going to be a livestream later in the day to demonstrate them.
