The first images of two new LEGO Super Mario 2024 sets confirm that the theme’s interactive courses will continue – even while all three starter packs are due to retire next year.
Earlier this year, the LEGO Group moved up the retirement dates of 71360 Adventures with Mario, 71387 Adventures with Luigi and 71403 Adventures with Peach to July 31, 2024 (where they were previously scheduled to hang around until 2026). That suggested the theme may have been due to wind down, or perhaps shift gears – but two more expansion sets are now confirmed to be on the way in January as normal.
German retailer JB Spielwaren has published the first images of both new sets, which are fully compatible with all three digital figures as standard. The question now is: why are those starter courses all retiring anyway? One answer could be that the LEGO Group is simply planning to reboot its starter packs, bringing the same characters back to shelves this summer in refreshed courses.
Whatever happens, there’s at least a little life left in LEGO Super Mario as we know it. Check out all the details on the two new sets below.
71429 Nabbit at Toad’s Shop

Marking the return of a character who last appeared in 71410 Character Packs Series 5 – and who will be familiar to Super Mario Bros. Wonder players who prefer an easier time of things – 71429 Nabbit at Toad’s Shop includes a mushroom house, workshop, Toad and Nabbit. The latter is essentially identical to the version that appeared in last summer’s blind boxes.
71430 Penguin Family Snow Adventure

Another cool addition to LEGO Super Mario’s ice biome, 71430 Penguin Family Snow Adventure includes two penguins who have definitely seen some things, a Goomba with a festive hat, and an ice ramp down which you can slide Mario, Luigi or Peach. If nothing else, this one looks like a great parts pack for only €19.99.
