The LEGO Group has updated 75402 ARC-170 Starfighter midway through production, but don’t worry if you’ve already bought it: you can request the new pieces for free.
The first ARC-170 since 2010 debuted in January this year with three trans-black cockpit elements, which you can still see in the original product images and in our review of the LEGO Star Wars 2025 set. But the current images on the set page at LEGO.com have swapped those pieces out for standard trans-clear windshields, including the product renders, box images and even the lifestyle shots.
While the LEGO Group isn’t shouting about this change from the rooftops, LEGO fans over on reddit are reporting that their requests for replacement pieces and a fresh sticker sheet are being honoured by the company’s customer services. If you already own 75402 ARC-170 Starfighter and want to replace your trans-black pieces with trans-clear, all you need to do is get in touch with LEGO.com’s customer support.
The reason for the change has also not been publicly disclosed, but it’s reasonable to assume it may be in pursuit of better colour-matching for the stickers applied to the windshields. White on trans-black looks a little washed out, while white on trans-clear may do a better job of matching the white stickers to the white elements around them. We’ll need to see the updated set in hand to determine whether it’s actually made a difference, though.
We've reached out to the LEGO Group for further information, so keep an eye on Brick Fanatics for updates.
Any new copies of 75402 ARC-170 Starfighter ordered from today will presumably arrive with trans-clear windshields as standard. The 497-piece LEGO Star Wars set is available now at LEGO.com for £59.99 / $69.99 / €69.99, and includes minifigures of Odd Ball, Jag, a generic Clone Pilot and R4-P44.
