Fans of Eiichiro Oda’s manga series may feel as if they've been waiting for LEGO One Piece sets for years, but so has its creator.
The LEGO Group and Netflix today announced an upcoming collaboration based on the live-action adaptation of Eiichiro Oda’s manga series, One Piece. Few specific details regarding exactly which LEGO One Piece sets and minifigures will be arriving later this year have been revealed so far, although Monkey D. Luffy and the rest of the Straw Hat Pirates have already been confirmed.
While some dedicated fans may feel as if they’ve been waiting an eternity for LEGO One Piece models to become a reality, they’re certainly not the only ones. A post on the official One Piece X (formerly Twitter) account had celebrated the news of the upcoming LEGO x Netflix venture, stating that series creator Eiichiro Oda himself is ‘overjoyed at this long-awaited collaboration!!’

A quick translation of the text included in the above image reveals that Eiichiro has apparently been asking for LEGO toys based on One Piece since the manga started more than 25 years ago. Since then his creation has leapt from the pages of Shonen Jump magazine to a successful anime series, 14 animated movies, 13 TV specials and the first season of the recent Netflix show.
Eiichiro goes on to say that he has ‘dozens of LEGO boxes piled up’ at his workplace that he hasn’t had time to dig into and that ‘you can bet I’ll be building and displaying them!’ when the LEGO One Piece sets finally arrive in 2025.
We’ll bring you more updates on the LEGO One Piece theme as soon as official details regarding sets, pricing and release dates for the first wave become available.
