As the end for hundreds of retiring LEGO sets draws near, some concepts may be gone for good, but others may stand a strong chance of returning.
From the always-diverse LEGO Ideas to the familiar territory of LEGO Star Wars, the array of sets retiring at the end of the year includes a few concepts that we probably won't see in the LEGO portfolio again, or at least for a long time. For older enthusiasts into specific hobbies outside the world of LEGO, there are some builds that you should especially take note of while they're still available while others are already sold out in select regions.
Here are five LEGO sets the likes of which we'll probably never see again and three that may return in some form in the future. Click here to keep track of exactly what is retiring in 2024 and beyond.
Retiring sets that probably won't be back
LEGO Ideas has three models with unique concepts that seem unlikely to return for one reason or another. 21339 BTS Dynamite has been on sale worldwide for a few months and its interested audience appears to have been more limited than expected. Despite this, it's a one-of-a-kind set designed for BTS and music fans alike. Continuing the musical side of LEGO Ideas is the retiring 21329 Fender Stratocaster. Downscaled LEGO instrument recreations are already rare and we've not seen another set like 21329 Fender Stratocaster since its release.
LEGO Ideas 21332 The Globe is another unique model for decorating your home that has also seen a few discounts. It's hard to imagine how the LEGO Group would approach another globe without re-releasing this set or depicting another map of the world as in 41838 Travel Moments.
Outside of LEGO Ideas, 76218 Sanctum Sanctorum is one of the oldest LEGO Marvel modular buildings and its time on shelves is nearly over. The collection of buildings shows no sign of stopping though and as discussed earlier today, there are many more buildings in the Marvel multiverse still to cover. It's unlikely that the LEGO Marvel team will have time to revisit the Sanctum.
Rounding out the selection is Disney's 43227 Villain Icons which was released for the 100th anniversary. While it's suitably nostalgic, the subject matter is undoubtedly niche and we'd understand should the LEGO Disney designers want to focus on more reliable concepts in the future of the theme.
LEGO Ideas 21331 Sonic the Hedgehog – Green Hill Zone released between the LEGO Dimensions Sonic set and the full Sonic the Hedgehog theme and it's one of only two adult-centric LEGO Sonic models to be released alongside 77000 Shadow the Hedgehog.
Considering that Sonic the Hedgehog seems to be continuing in 2025 with more specific game references and room for extensions on the sides of 21331 Sonic the Hedgehog – Green Hill Zone, we can only hope that this is a sign of more zone-based models in the future of the theme to expand on the original LEGO Ideas model.
From LEGO Star Wars, 75257 Millennium Falcon probably shouldn't be a high priority aside from its minifigures. Millennium Falcon models at this scale are all too common in LEGO Star Wars, now including 75389 The Dark Falcon. It's inevitable for the theme to return to a standard Millennium Falcon build at this scale in the future though.
LEGO Architecture's 21056 Taj Mahal already revisits 10256 Taj Mahal, which itself was a remake of 10189 Taj Mahal. With these and the newer 40585 World of Wonders, the Taj Mahal almost certainly has a future in the world of LEGO and while it may be at a different size than 21056 Taj Mahal, the wonder will likely be back one day.
