Series 27 of the LEGO Collectible Minifigures is rumoured to include what may be an updated version of one of the rarest LEGO Pirates minifigures: Steve.
According to rumours from exabrickslegogo_, republished by Clay_Bricks, LEGO Collectible Minifigures Series 27 will include a Pirate Quartermaster, returning to the swashbuckling setting for the first time since 71027 Series 20’s Pirate Girl. And while there’s not much else to go on beyond that at this point, it does sound like the stage is set for Steve to make his way back to the LEGO line-up.
“Um, Steve? Who’s that?” Glad you asked: Steve is the nickname given by the community to one of the rarest LEGO Pirates minifigures, an otherwise-unassuming character outfitted in a shirt with an extravagant collar and a brown vest. He’s rare in the sense that he only appeared in two original LEGO Pirates sets, 6277 Imperial Trading Post and 6286 Skull's Eye Schooner – once with a brown tricorne and blue legs, and once with a black tricorne and grey legs.
While the LEGO Group never officially identified him by name or even rank, Steve is generally considered to be quartermaster given Rummy already fulfils the role of first mate to Captain Redbeard. (Bet you didn’t expect to be learning so much about retro LEGO Pirates lore today.) And if Series 27 really is bringing us a Pirate Quartermaster, what better nod to classic LEGO lore could there be than to bring back Steve?
The Collectible Minifigures theme has really stepped up its quality and level of detail in recent years, culminating in what many are calling one of the best series to date in
There’s potential for some neat accessories here, too. A quartermaster was generally considered to be the true second-in-command to the captain (rather than the first mate) aboard pirate vessels, and would lead attacks on other ships and decide on and divide up the loot. A new dual-moulded flintlock pistol, treasure elements or even a compass could all be included in the box to entice LEGO Pirates fans even further.
If Series 27 follows the standard Collectible Minifigures release trajectory, it should land on LEGO Store shelves on January 1, 2025, marking a swashbuckling start to the new year for budding buccaneers. There’s just one catch: the best LEGO Pirates set currently on shelves, 10320 Eldorado Fortress, is due to retire at the end of 2024. Make sure to snap yours up soon so you’ve got somewhere for Steve to raid in January.
All details around LEGO Minifigures Series 27 are only rumoured for now, and should be taken with the customary grain of salt. But here’s a reminder of what’s said to be coming in any case...
