Seven LEGO Star Wars minifigures in dire need of an update

There have been over 1,400 LEGO Star Wars minifigures, many of which return to the same characters again and again – but some characters are overdue for a remake.

LEGO Star Wars has a wealth of characters to draw upon for inspiration for its minifigure. Some, like your Luke Skywalkers, Darth Vaders, and so on, have been returned to time and time again. However, some characters have been ignored for too long – or simply not given a design detailed enough to satisfy the community.

In honour of 25 years of LEGO Star Wars, we've nominated seven Star Wars characters who have had one minifigure, but who are in desperate need of a redesign. Perhaps before the next major anniversary, we'll see a return to some of these minifigures.

Commander Fox

First up is Commander Fox. He might have appeared recently in 2023's 75354 Coruscant Guard Gunship but his design was lacking in various areas. The most recent minifigure appears to be based on an incorrect design that first appeared in a LEGO Star Wars: Castaways event of the same year. The lower half of Commander Fox’s chest armour and kneepads were white when they should have been red. What's more, CC-1010 is without his kama and has a grey visor instead of black.

Those small but noticeable features mean that Fox deserves a time in the minifigure spotlight when those details can be fixed – and soon.

Mon Mothma

Mon Mothma, who recently resurfaced in Disney+'s Andor, has only ever had one minifigure. It's admittedly accurate but fairly plain and, as we as Star Wars fans get to learn more about her early days and wider life, seeing her in a new minifigure design feels like a must. With Andor season 2 coming next year, could we usher in a new era of Mon Mothma minifigure? Here's hoping.

Zam Wesell

Another character who only ever got one minifigure is Zam Wesell, one of the links in the 'man sending a man sending a bounty hunter sending a shapeshifter sending a droid sending bugs' chain. The shapeshifting bounty hunter makes the most of the two-sided minifigure heads, showing off both the faces she wears in the movie. However, we've not seen them since 2002 – meaning it's well overdue for a redesign to suit the modern flesh-coloured look of LEGO Star Wars minifigures, rather than the old-school yellow.

Jango Fett

Jango Fett is rumoured to be making a comeback in the form of the LEGO Star Wars Helmet Collection and perhaps that should mean he should have a minifigure revival alongside his one-time murderous colleague Zam Wesell. His last minifigure was back in 2017 and, although pretty detailed, lacked arm printing or printing on the side of the legs.

As a popular character, a more detailed version would be more than welcome in the LEGO Star Wars community, so here's hoping he's on the cards for the LEGO Star Wars designers to return to.

Queen Amidala

Padme Amidala wears some truly magnificent outfits throughout her time in the prequels, the most extravagant of which is her Queen Amidala look, complete with ornate headdress and flowing skirt. However, her minifigures tend to be more focused on her active wear, with crops tops and fighting gear galore.

We want to see more of Queen Amidala, who has only ever had one minifigure – and even that dates back to 2012. Where are the swishing dresses from Naboo? Where are the ceremonial gowns? We want more colourful Padme's!

Count Dooku

Count Dooku plays a pivotal role in the Star Wars chronology but his presence in the prequel movies means that he, like many others, is chronically underdeveloped as a minifigure. His 2013 version is pretty accurate but could do with a modern revival, with all the new printing techniques and design possibilities that includes. With Revenge of the Sith getting its 20th anniversary next year, perhaps 2025 will be his year.

General Kenobi

Clone Wars as a Star Wars era is chronically underserved and none less so than General Kenobi himself. We only have this wide-eyed minifigure from 2008. Let's lean into the nostalgia, as the LEGO Group loves to do, and return to Clone Wars-accurate versions of our favourite war heroes – but starting with Obi-Wan Kenobi himself.
