Six well-reviewed LEGO sets you can’t miss out on

Multiple LEGO sets will be retiring at the end of 2024, so here’s our pick of six soon-to-be-gone models we’ve reviewed that need to be in your collection.

Only a handful of months remain before many current must-have LEGO sets will be retired for good. That line-up of models due to depart in 2024 covers almost every major theme and some serious fan-favourites, but alas their time is almost up.

The good news is that you can keep track of every LEGO set retiring this year and beyond, thanks to our dedicated landing page right here. The LEGO Group does tend to shift retirement dates around from time-to-time, but our detailed lists are updated regularly so you can see which models are departing and when.

With that in mind, we’re shining a spotlight on six such LEGO sets we've reviewed that are due to bid a fond farewell to us in 2024. They’re all builds that have dazzled us with their design, construction and minifigure selections and should be considered essential additions to any serious collection.

If you’re looking for a LEGO set that packs in everything but the kitchen sink (although it does have a kitchen), then 80113 Family Reunion Celebration is definitely what you’re after. A combination of modular building and accessible playset, the 1,823-piece model is bursting with detail, 13 charming minifigures and a very appealing price tag.

Inside 80113 Family Reunion Celebration are multiple rooms that are full of character and whimsy, set across two floors. Sure, some areas may be a little more cramped than others, but at this price the Chinese Traditional Festival build just can’t be beaten. LEGO City models usually have to be something pretty special to catch our eye and that’s exactly what 60380 Downtown does in spades. Breathing new life into the long-running theme, the sprawling set perfectly captures a snapshot of modern urban life and is a truly massive build.

Coming in at 2,010 pieces with 14 minifigures, 60380 Downtown is another LEGO model that crams plenty into every corner, so much so that its scale and detail can sometimes be quite staggering. In addition to being sat on a floorplan that covers 52x50 studs and reaches four stories, each section is designed as a mini build before being combined together. Go take a look at our in-depth review of the LEGO City model to find out much more.

3 – 10320 Eldorado Fortress

LEGO Icons 10320 Eldorado Fortress lifestyle featured 2 1024x576

A true blast from the past, 10320 Eldorado Fortress takes a classic LEGO set from yesteryear and reimagines it for a modern audience. The fact that it achieves its goal so well deserves to be applauded, as delivering what fans are expecting compared to what they really want is a fine line to tread.

Fortunately, the LEGO Icons build manages to tick almost every box, with a large dose of nostalgia, its modular nature opening up multiple display options and a welcome (but brief) return for the LEGO Pirates theme. Head on over to our review of 10320 Eldorado Fortress here and discover why the pirate life is definitely for you.

4 – 71741 NINJAGO City Gardens

When it comes to ridiculous scale, 71741 NINJAGO City Gardens is in a league of its own. Clocking in at a staggering 5,685 pieces and measuring over 73cm high, this monster-sized NINJAGO set launched in 2021 and marked the theme’s then first decade.

Full of reference and reverence, 71741 NINJAGO City Gardens is the perfect showcase for the energy and creativity that’s been prevalent in NINJAGO sets for the last 10 years. Fans who have yet to add the build to their collections yet should do so before it retires in just a few months’ time, plus be sure to read our exhaustive review here.

5 – 77015 Temple of the Golden Idol

The man with the hat briefly returned in 2023, with a trio of LEGO Indiana Jones sets led by the amazing 77015 Temple of the Golden Idol. Packed with references to the opening scenes of Raiders of the Lost Ark, the model delivered everything that fans could have hoped for from such a build.

From the rolling boulder to a light-up idol, the LEGO Indiana Jones offering acts as both a fun playset and a truly impressive display piece. Although 77015 Temple of the Golden Idol only includes four minifigures, each one is a perfect addition to the archaeologist adventurer’s greatest moments. Uncover our detailed review of the model here before making what is an essential purchase.

6 – 75290 Mos Eisley Cantina

Theme: Star Wars Price: £344.99 / $399.99 / €399.99 Pieces: 3,187 Minifigures: 21 LEGO: Order now

LEGO Star Wars 75290 Mos Eisley Cantina lifestyle featured 1024x576

It’s hard to believe that 75290 Mos Eisley Cantina launched all the way back in 2020, yet it’s still on sale to this day and a tempting purchase for LEGO Star Wars collectors with deep pockets. Perfectly recreating the cunning hive of scum and villainy from Episode IV, the model will be sorely missed once it’s gone later this year.

In addition to multiple locations to explore and nods to the classic A New Hope scenes, the LEGO Star Wars set packs in a whopping 21 minifigures, many of which still remain exclusive to 75290 Mos Eisley Cantina.
