Warner Bros has restructured its gaming division into four clear franchises, seemingly eliminating all else and therefore narrowing the scope of future LEGO video games.
Per Variety, the publisher has this week installed a new leadership team and restructured Warner Bros Games into four distinct franchises: Mortal Kombat, Game of Thrones, Harry Potter and the DC Universe. All output going forward will therefore fall under one of those umbrella IPs, which presumably includes whatever TT Games – veteran developer of LEGO video games – is working on next.
Game of Thrones and Mortal Kombat are probably not on the cards for a LEGO game any time soon, which leaves only Harry Potter and the DC Universe as viable options. Neither of those would be new ground for TT Games, which has a host of Batman, DC and Wizarding World titles under its belt already, most recently in LEGO DC Super-Villains and the LEGO Harry Potter Collection.
Rumours of a LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga-style take on LEGO Harry Potter have been swirling around for a while now, but a job listing posted back in January cast doubt on those reports as the studio sought a designer ‘skilled in LEGO vehicle design such as those seen in the LEGO Speed Champions range’. That skillset doesn't seem especially relevant to a Harry Potter game.
The same rumour mill suggests that TT Games has pivoted to a few different titles over the past few years, so it’s not difficult to imagine the team shifting focus once again, this time back to Harry Potter or even Batman. According to reliable industry source Jason Schrier, however, TT Games actually has a new LEGO title lined up for a 2026 release.
It’s possible that that game is far along enough in development to launch regardless of whether it fits into Warner Bros Games’ new structure (and perhaps it does anyway), but Schrier has so far kept quiet on any further details of TT Games’ next venture. But whether it’s with that one or whatever follows, the future of its LEGO games appears to belong solely to the boy wizard and the Caped Crusader.
All that said, TT Games no longer holds an exclusive licence for LEGO video games, and plenty of other developers are taking advantage. The latest additions to the LEGO gaming slate are LEGO Voyagers and LEGO Party, both of which were announced at Summer Game Fest earlier this month.
